    Kurt Warner Facts

  • During his stint at the University of Northern Iowa, Kurt was a member of the Northern Iowa Panthers football team. He was 3rd on the team’s depth chart until his senior year. When he was finally given the opportunity to start matches for the team, his performances had seen him named the Gateway Conference‘s ‘Offensive Player of the Year’.
  • After his college graduation in 1993, he had spent 4 years without being named to an NFL roster. He had signed up with the Green Bay Packers in 1994 but was released by the team before the start of the regular season.
  • After this, he had taken up a job working the night shift, as a stock clerk, at a local Hy-Vee grocery store. He also used to work as an assistant football coach at the University of Northern Iowa.
  • During this time, he had played 3 seasons for the Iowa Barnstormers in the Arena Football League (AFL), a now-defunct indoor football league. He was inducted into the ‘Arena Football Hall of Fame’ in May 2010.
  • With the Arena Football League closing operations in 2019, he is quite likely to remain the only player to be inducted into both the ‘Arena Football Hall of Fame’ and the ‘Pro Football Hall of Fame’ (inducted in 2017).
  • As of July 2021, he was the only undrafted player to be named NFL ‘MVP’ (1999, 2001) and Super Bowl ‘MVP’ (1999). By this time, he was also the only undrafted quarterback to lead his team to a Super Bowl victory (1999). That performance had also made him the first quarterback to win the Super Bowl during his first season as a team’s primary starter.
